A few days later I noticed the bird was off the nest and nowhere to be seen, so I ventured over to take a look. I was alarmed to see there was only two eggs in the nest, which now looked a little ruffled.

Throughout the day I watched the nest and the hen did not return to the nest. All day there was no sign of the mother, and as night fell I feared the worst. There has been no sign of the mother, and now, some days later, the clutch has been lost to the recent cold southerly.
