Over the last few days I’ve finished reading ‘Hannibal’, as a bit of research for my own novel. I liked the way Harris developed Lecter into a more 3D character with some quite charming aspects to counterpoint the bad to the bone parts. I felt much of the story had become something of a pastiche of the James Bond genre – with Hannibal managing to avoid (barely) saying, ‘Fell, Doctor Fell’.
In light of this now James Bonding of the story it came as no surprise that the lion lay down with the lamb, and they together enjoy some organic cooking. I really enjoyed the book for its overall silliness – well, hey, it’s pastiche; but please, Mr Harris, no more.
